HabsWorld.net --

The Habs have been busy lately signing centre prospects and continued that trend on Wednesday, signing Lukas Vejdemo to a two-year, entry-level contract.  The 22-year-old was only able to sign a two-year ELC due to his age.

Vejdemo was Montreal’s third-round pick (87th overall) back in 2015.  He’s coming off his best season in the SHL with Djurgarden where he posted a career-best 22 points in 47 games while averaging 16:35 per game, more than three minutes a night higher than last season.

Vejdemo was under contract with Djurgarden for next season already so it will be interesting to see if he debuts with Laval or if they loan him back for one more year.  He profiles as a bottom-six checker so a bigger role in the SHL may be more beneficial than a checking role with the Rocket.

Per CapFriendly, the deal breaks down as follows:

2018-19: $650,000 base salary, $92,500 signing bonus, $182,500 in performance bonuses, $70,000 AHL salary.
2019-20: $750,000 base salary, $92,500 signing bonus, $82,500 in performance bonuses, $70,000 AHL salary.
