HabsWorld.net --

As a result of the Kings clinching the playoffs on Wednesday night, the Habs have acquired their fourth-round pick in June’s draft back from Los Angeles.

The Canadiens initially ceded that selection to the Kings at the trade deadline last season in exchange for Dwight King, a move that didn’t exactly pan out well.  However, the pick was then included as a conditional selection in Montreal’s trade of Torrey Mitchell earlier this season; had LA missed the postseason, the Habs would have received their fifth-rounder instead.

Mitchell has fared relatively well since the trade, picking up 11 points in 49 games while averaging 11:53 per night, more than 2:30 per game extra compared to his time with the Habs so it’s safe to say that the Kings are happy with the swap as well.

The Canadiens now have nine selections in the first four rounds of the draft.  The breakdown is as follows:

MTL 1st
CHI 2nd
MTL 2nd
TOR 2nd
WSH 2nd
MTL 3rd
EDM 4th
MTL 4th
WPG 4th
MTL 5th

The draft lottery is set to take place on Saturday, April 28th while the draft goes June 22nd and 23rd.
