Updated October 15th.

Right winger Sven Andrighetto cleared waivers on Saturday and has been assigned to St. John’s.  The team waived him on Friday to open a roster spot to activate defenceman Jeff Petry off of injured reserve.

Andrighetto made the team out of training camp but only as the 14th forward. Last season, he played in 44 games with Montreal, scoring seven goals while adding ten assists while playing just over 14 minutes per game on average. He also suited up in 26 games with St. John’s where he fared much better offensively, picking up 23 points (10-13-23) in those games.

Coming off of his entry-level deal, Andrighetto inked a one year, one-way contract worth $650,000 back in June. That entire cap hit will come off the books as a result of him being assigned to the IceCaps.

It’s a bit surprising that he was able to clear although the fact that most teams have full 23-man rosters right now certainly played a role in him sneaking through.  He’ll now likely be one of Montreal’s first call-ups when injuries arise.

The team also provided an update on Carey Price on Friday. He is dealing with a severe case of the flu with a heavy fever and is at home. Dr. Mulder is closely monitoring his progress.
