The Montreal Canadiens did well to maintain their playoff position in December,
despite being on the road for 7 out of 12 games. Although a 3-game losing
streak cost them some points early on in the month, the Canadiens went
8-4-0 to secure enough points to remain near the top of the Atlantic
Division. With Carey Price leading the way, the Canadiens began to
establish their team identity (i.e., defence first), and allowed 3 or more goals
only 3 times in December. This emphasis on defence seems crucial to
Montreal’s success, as the Canadiens’ goal-scoring ranks in the bottom half on
the NHL.
Although it’s been established that Carey Price
played a big part in Montreal’s successes in December, there were others that contributed significantly for the Canadiens. Habsworld is interested in
