HabsWorld.net --

As part of our prospect rankings series, we asked our readers to vote for
their top-10 prospects.  The ballots have been cast and today we bring you
the results.  There are some differences between the fan vote and our own
rankings; only one prospect appears at the same ranking here as they do in
ours while one player that our readers put in their top-10 failed to crack
ours.

Our top-10 was determined by total points percentage [each players’ points
divided by total available points].  Points were awarded in inverse fashion
(1st place vote gets 10, 2nd gets 9, down to 10th getting 1).

Just Missed the Cut

11) Michael McCarron (14.88%)
12) Christian Thomas (13.39%)
13) Martin Reway (9.06%)
14) Magnus Nygren (7.05%)
15) Darren Dietz (4.25%)

16 other players received at least one vote.

#10 – D Greg Pateryn (16.14%)

The 24 year old blueliner had a very successful season with the Bulldogs last
year.  Pateryn was widely considered to be a contender for the #7 spot with
the Canadiens this season but will again start the year with Hamilton where he
will be their #1 defenceman.

#9 – F Charles Hudon (21.34%)

While Hudon didn’t garner quite as much support as he did last season, he
received enough to retain the #9 spot in the fan vote.  He didn’t look out
of place with Montreal in the preseason and will likely play an important role
with the Bulldogs to start the season despite being a first year pro.

#8 – F Artturi Lehkonen (25.59%)

Injuries cut his season short which likely played a role in him getting a
little less support this time around compared to last year.  Despite that,
Lehkonen still appeared on nearly two-thirds of the ballots cast.

#7 – G Zach Fucale (34.88%)

Fucale followed up his strong draft year with another impressive season in
the Quebec league.  He didn’t take a significant step forward like some
other prospects did which likely resulted in him dropping a couple of spots in
the readers’ rankings.

#6 – F Sven Andrighetto (40.94%)

Last year, Andrighetto was an afterthought in these rankings as he slotted
16th in the fan vote.  A strong season in Hamilton (and an impressive
preseason performance in September) earned him the biggest jump by far in this
year’s vote.

#5 – F Jacob de la Rose (57.01%)

Like Andrighetto, a strong post-draft campaign and an impressive preseason
(he may actually make the opening roster) gave de la Rose a nice boost in the
reader rankings this year.  He appeared on nearly 94% of the ballots, tied
for the third most amongst all the players.

#4 – D Jarred Tinordi (62.76%)

After narrowly missing out on the #1 ranking last year, it’s safe to say the
fans aren’t quite as excited about Tinordi as they were a season ago.  That
said, 60% of the voters had him inside their top-4 so there are still hopes for
him to become the impact physical defenceman the team sorely needs.

#3 – F Jiri Sekac (69.21%)

So far, the hype appears to be justified and accordingly, he was in a very
tight battle for the second and third positions.  However, over 13% of
voters didn’t have him in their top-10, which cost him a chance at the #2 spot.

#2 – F Nikita Scherbak (74.02%)

For a late first round pick, Scherbak really made a positive impression this
preseason which has many excited about the Russian winger.  Nearly 75% of
the voters had him inside their top-4 while he appeared on all but two ballots..

#1 – D Nathan Beaulieu (84.33%)

Last year, he and Tinordi were neck and neck for the #1 ranking but following
the votes as they were coming in, it was pretty clear that Beaulieu was going to
earn that spot for the second straight year.  He has made the Habs out of
training camp; it’s time to see if the fans’ confidence in him is justified.
