HabsWorld.net --

The Habs can scratch one more prospect off the to-sign list as the team
announced just prior to Thursday’s game against Minnesota that defenceman Morgan
Ellis has signed a three year contract commencing next season.  As always,
financial terms were not disclosed.

The signing comes on the first day that teams can sign ‘future’ deals, ones
that kick in beginning next season.  While players like Jarred Tinordi,
Brendan Gallagher, and Michael Bournival all signed earlier, their deals will
still start next year as they will qualify for an entry-level slide.
Ellis’ new deal will not allow for that.

Ellis has split time this season with Cape Breton and Shawinigan.  Since
the trade to the Cataractes (who host the upcoming Memorial Cup), his offensive
game has taken off, picking up 6 goals and 15 assists in just 20 games.  On
the season, he has 13 goals and 33 assists in 54 games with 45 PIMS and a +18
rating.

As the deal begins next year, this contract has no bearing on Montreal’s 50
contract limit.  Currently, the Habs have all 50 spots filled.
