Canada’s final 23-man roster for the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship is set. Head coach Don Hay and Hockey Canada head scout Kevin Prendergast made their last round of cuts on Wednesday morning.

Once the dust settled, three Canadiens prospects were amongst the players retained.

Nathan Beaulieu, Montreal’s first round pick in 2011, will patrol Team Canada’s blueline. The Saint John Sea Dog is having a superb campaign in the QMJHL, scoring 26 points in 30 games and maintaining an excellent +20 differential.

Fellow QMJHL star Michael Bournival, who was acquired in the Ryan O’Byrne trade, also made the final cut. The Shawinigan native has 24 points in only 16 games with his hometown Cataractes.

Finally, training camp standout Brendan Gallagher, who was all but assured of a spot with the team, rounds out the group of Montreal prospects. A diminutive winger playing with Vancouver in the WHL, Gallagher is eighth in league scoring with 46 points.

Daniel Pribyl of the Czech Republic and Jarred Tinordi of Team USA, both memebrs of the Canadiens organization, are also vying for spots in the tournament.

Canada plays its first contest on Boxing Day as they will face off against Finland. Their Preliminary Round group also features the U.S, Czech Republic and Denmark.
