HabsWorld.net --

Just when we thought the Habs wouldn’t be adding anyone else to the roster
with preseason nearly over, they surprised pretty much everyone with the signing
of Chris Campoli.  The club hopes that the former Senator can rediscover
his offensive touch of a few years ago while providing some extra insurance
injury wise.  What does that mean for the avid poolie though?

2010-11

Campoli had a quiet campaign with the Senators last season, posting just
three goals in 58 games to go along with eleven helpers.  His numbers
improved upon being dealt to Chicago at the deadline as he picked up seven more
points in 19 contests.  Worth noting most of all was the jump in ice time
to just over 20 minutes per game with the Blackhawks.  Unfortunately,
Campoli’s year will best be remembered for his mistake that led to Vancouver’s
game winning goal in Game 7 of the first round.

2011-12 Role

With the current injury to Andrei Markov, Campoli finds himself in a top-4
role to start the season.  However, when everyone is healthy, he likely
will drop to the third pairing.  Fortunately, he will have some powerplay
time to work with and it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he gets a
regular shift shorthanded either.  Expect him to log similar minutes as he
did last season.

Projected Stats

Campoli fits in well with Montreal’s quicker forwards which should help his
offensive numbers a little.  Will that be enough to make him a worthwhile
selection in your pool though?  Probably not, unless it’s a deep pool in
which case he could be a suitable depth guy.  With Campoli being an
insurance policy of sorts, his best fantasy value will be when there are
injuries, particularly to Markov and/or P.K. Subban.  Whenever that
happens, he’ll be worth a pick up off the free agent wire as he’ll get a jump in
powerplay time.
