HabsWorld.net --

The Habs dipped into the undrafted junior free agent pool on Friday, signing
forward Alain Berger to a 3 year, entry level contract that begins next season.
Berger grew up in Switzerland, playing 20 games in their highest professional
league by the age of 19 before coming to North America via the CHL Import Draft
(a 1st round pick) in 2009.

The 6’4, 209 lb forward has spent the past 2 seasons with the OHL’s Oshawa
Generals, amassing 85 points (48-37-85) in 109 regular season games along with
142 PIMS.  This season, his +19 rating ranked 4th on the Generals while his
14 PP tallies (out of 29 goals) placed him 2nd and tied for 12th overall in the
league.  He also represented Team Switzerland at the 2009 World Juniors
playing 1 level below the main tournament, where he picked up a goal and an
assist in 4 games before breaking his ankle.

Most of Berger’s damage is done around the net where he uses his big frame to
get tip ins and rebounds though his shot can also be a weapon.  He
currently is an alternate captain with the Generals.  As Oshawa is still in
the playoffs, he is not eligible to sign an ATO to go to Hamilton at this time.
Financial deals of the deal were not disclosed, we’ll keep an eye out for the
info.
