HabsWorld.net --

They’re alive!  The Habs are still alive after riding a pair of early
first period goals en route to a 2-1 victory over Washington in Game 5.
Mike Cammalleri scored a minute and a half in while newly promoted Travis Moen
tallied 5 minutes later and that one proved to be the winner.  Alexander
Ovechkin scored in the 2nd but Jaroslav Halak shut down the Caps the rest of the
way, making 37 saves.  Semyon Varlamov took the loss for the Caps, stopping
26 of 28 shots.

HW 3 Stars of the Game:

1) Jaroslav Halak: Really, do I need to explain this one?  With
the way Varlamov had been playing the last couple of games, he needed his ‘A’
game for the Habs to have a chance and he brought his ‘A+’ game to the table
tonight.

Statline: 37 saves on 38 shots, 1.00 GAA, .974 SV%

2) Travis Moen: Surprisingly moved to the Gomez-Gionta line for this
game and boy did this move work out, give Jacques Martin some credit here.
That line needed grit, he brought that.  That line needed some jam, he
brought that.  Quite frankly, that line needed a goal and guess what, he
brought that too.

Statline: 1 goal, +1 rating, 1 shot (3 attempts), 3 hits, 2 blocks,
18:29 TOI

3) Mike Cammalleri: He was brought in to score goals and he did just
that, giving the Habs a huge lift just 90 seconds into the game.  He had
several other chances as well though I think we’d all breathe a little easier if
he didn’t try to dipsy-doodle quite as much out there.

Statline: 1 goal, even rating, 2 shots (3 attempts), 1 giveaway, 0/1
faceoffs, 18:05 TOI

HM) Tom Pyatt: The numbers don’t tell the story for Pyatt in this
game.  Every time he was out there, he made the right play and that’s
something you need from a 4th liner.  He had some scoring chances in this
one and was very effective on the cycle game, particularly in the 3rd.

Statline: 0 points, even rating, 2 shots (3 attempts), 1 giveaway,
10:30 TOI

Stat of the Night: A bit of an oddity considering last game’s faceoff
numbers but the Habs made the call to use primarily Scott Gomez and Tomas
Plekanec on the draw tonight, despite both being well under 50% last game.
The top 2 faceoff men from Game 4, Cammalleri and Dominic Moore, combined to go
0/4 tonight, while Gomez and Plekanec went 24/46, good for 52%.  To put
that 46 in perspective, there were only 55 faceoffs in the whole game.
