HabsWorld.net --

On Monday, the Habs continued to add free
agents to the fold, this time adding to their prospect base by signing Swedish
centre Andreas Engqvist to a 3 year entry level contract.  The deal is reportedly worth just under $2.4 million.  Despite signing
today, Engqvist will return to Sweden for next season, but is expected to come
to North America for the 2010-11 campaign.

The 6’3, 196 lb C completed his 3rd season for Djurgarden in the Swedish Elite
League, picking up 9 goals and 7 assists in 31 games before a wrist injury ended
his season early.  Despite this, the 16 points were a career high for the
Swede.

Engqvist participated in the Habs’ development camp last week, drawing
compliments for his size and poise on the ice.  However, as per the terms
of this contract, he will not attend training camp with Montreal in September
and will spend the entire season with Djurgarden.  Speculation is that the
Habs did not want to risk having to bid against other teams for him at end of
this coming season.
