The Hamilton Bulldogs survived a scare at home
this past week, and despite losing 2 of 3 games, find themselves a win away from
a berth in the conference finals. We’ll look at the numbers game-by-game
for the Dogs, as well as a wrap up of the World Championships, looking at the
final numbers of the Habs in Russia. Finally, our final thought segment,
we’ll examine what impact Alexander Perezhogin’s departure may have for
Montreal, in the Recap.

The Manitoba Moose duplicated what Hamilton did
in games 1 and 2, winning a pair on the road, before the Bulldogs got it
together Sunday, taking Game 5.

Well, it’s no longer a rumour, Alexander
Perezhogin has bolted the Habs to take more money in Russia. The first
question that pops to mind is what does this do now for the roster? First
instinct for me is to say absolutely nothing, but then this wouldn’t be much of
a paragraph, would it? So, what could happen? First, it all but
solidifies Andrei Kostitsyn’s spot in the lineup, at least for now. Also,
the Habs reportedly have shown some interest in bringing back Mike Johnson, and
when you look at the fact that a few wingers could be missing from this year’s
squad, that will help his case in contract talks. Another player who could
benefit is Garth Murray, who for the meantime, slides up a spot on the depth
chart, and is pegged for 4th line duty based on the shape of the forward units
for the time being. On the farm, the only 2 candidates that would be
considered are Duncan Milroy and Jonathan Ferland, a pair of wingers who can
play a 2-way game. In all likelihood, the team won’t want to convert
Chipchura/Grabovski to the wing, and despite what Dale Hunter says, Sergei
Kostitsyn is not NHL ready, the evidence being that Michael Lambert is inserted
into the Game 5 lineup over him. Or, the team could sign a lower line UFA
winger, there’s about a hundred of them on the market too. All these
scenarios for Alexander Perezhogin leaving the team…boy, do I miss Canadiens
hockey already.
