HabsWorld.net --

With Christmas and the new year fast approaching, hockey fans around the world are gearing up for the next big international hockey tournament. The World Junior Championships of Hockey will return on Boxing Day this year, as Canada looks to defend it’s title. This year, Canada will look to win it’s third straight Gold Medal on European soil, as the tournament will be held in Leksand-Mora, Sweden. The tournament will commence on Tuesday, December 26th, 2006, and will wrap up on Friday, January 5th, 2007.

This year’s tournament will be an exciting one for Habs’ fans, as four of the hockey club’s prospects will be involved.
Sergei Kostistyn
(Belarus), Juraj Mikus (Slovakia), Pavel
Valentenko
(Russia), and
Carey Price (Canada) are all heading to Sweden.

Though we are hoping for solid performances from all of our prospects, two you should especially look out for are Carey Price and Sergei Kostistyn. Price, who is expected to start in goal for Canada this year, is under a lot of pressure. He is expected to play to the level that the previous goaltenders did, such as Justin Pogge and Jeff Glass.

Meanwhile, Kostitsyn was a key component in Belarus’ entry into the A-division last year, and will be expected to lead his team even further this year around. No matter what the outcomes are, it will certainly be an interesting few days for Habs’ fans.
