This past weekend proved to be a very good weekend for Canadiens prospect Tomas Plekanec. Named to his second AHL All-Star game, Plekanec took home the CCM Fastest Skater Award in the AHL Skills Competition. He was timed at 14.196 seconds for one lap around the rink.

When it came to the actual game itself, Plekanec continued to impress. After Canada got off to a 4-0 lead in the first period, Plekanec opened the scoring for PlanetUSA with a goal 3:34 into the 2nd period. This goal jump started PlanetUSA, as they out shot team Canada 33-12 in the final two periods and tied the game at 4, forcing overtime.

In the shootout, former Canadien goaltender Mathieu Garon was beaten on all 3 shots he faced, while team Canada was stopped by Ryan Miller on all 3 shots they took. The prettiest goal was scored by none other than Tomas Plekanec, who put a beautiful backhander over Garon’s shoulder.

Plekanec was rewarded for his efforts as he was named the Dodge Most Valuable Player award.
