Playing on the country’s top line alongside Teemu Selanne and Jere Lehtinen, Habs captain Saku Koivu helped lead team Finland to a 4-0 win over the Czech Republic in the opening match of the World Cup of Hockey today. Captain Koivu’s only point of the game came when he notched a nifty little goal early in the third period.

 

While the Finns grabbed the win, the Czech team wasn’t exactly looking too great, being outplayed heavily by Koivu, Selanne and company.

 

Tomas Vokoun was plastered with shots throughout the game, many of which were a result of the exceptional talents of Koivu.

 

Koivu was the lone Hab taking part in the game.

 

Tomorrow night, however, Jose Theodore and the Canadian team take on Team USA, though it’s unlikely Theo will see any action. Meanwhile, Richard Zednik and Team Slovakia will meet up with Alex Kovalev, Andrei Markov and Team Russia this Wednesday.
