Selected in the fifth round of the 2000 entry draft, 145th overall, Ryan Glenn was picked after having a very successful season in the EJHL playing in the southern division for the Walpole Junior Stars. While in the EJHL, Glenn was named the EJHL Defensemen of the Year, and was a EJHL First Team All Star. The skilled defensemen was able to rack up sixty points in forty two games with nineteen goals, impressive for the blue liner. Glenn would go on to play for St. Lawrence in the ECAC, which has hosted other Hab prospects Chris Higgins and Ryan O’Byrne. But it took some time for Ryan to find success at the NCAA level, as he had some difficulties producing much offense.
Entering his final season as a senior this year, Glenn the assistant captain, has been looked upon to bolster the blueline for the St. Lawrence Saints, while also adding an offensive punch, and some physical play. So far this season, Glenn has done just that, as he is currently tied for third on the team in goals, fourth in points, and he leads his team in scoring for defensemen by a wide margin. Also he is currently third on the team in plus/minus, behind a forward and another senior defensemen who had missed almost half of the season. Glenn’s +8 is very impressive when you consider that his team as a whole is a combine -19, with most players being on the minus side, and the team leader at +10. Ryan has also been able to keep playing his physical style of hockey, as he is not overly physical, but will take the body and is currently third on the team in penalty minutes with 44 mins.
After showing some impressive offensive skills while in the EJHL, Glenn seems to have found his scoring touch in the NCAA, as he has set career highs in all offensive categories. His seven goals this year, come close to his career totals of eleven goals in his three previous seasons or 105 games. At 23 years old, the 6’3 210 pound left shooting defensemen will be looking to earn a contract with the Canadiens this summer, as he will be without a team to play for come next season, although he’s not required to be signed until the summer of 2005.
