QMJHL

Michael Lambert- LW. Still leads his team in scoring but has fallen a bit as one of the top scorers in the entire QMJHL. Has six game winning goals, which is tied for team lead with both Urquhart and Lapierre. With the June 1st deadline to be signed, Lambert continues to play well and is a major reason for the Rocket’s success this season. This should go a long ways in helping him earn a contract without having reenter the draft his summer.

Cory Urquhart- C. Urquhart is second on his team in scoring, as he has been neck and neck with Lambert all season long for the team scoring lead. The Urquhart/Lambert connection has been very effective all season, as Urquhart seems to be able to find Lambert who continues to burry his chances.

Maxim Lapierre- C. Is developing into a solid all round team player, while improving on his weakness at the same time. Lapierre has become a player that is tough to play against, as he will play hard every night with an intense in your face style. He has been able to improve his offensive abilities, as they are still in the raw stages of development. Lapierre has been able to set career highs in every area of his offensive game, while still doing well at the other end of the rink, and will drop the gloves to stick up for his teammates.

Jimmy Bonneau- LW. Already known as one of the top fighters in the QMJHL, Bonneau continues to work hard to improve his all round game. He has been able to contribute on offense, while playing some smart hockey in his own end and in staying out of the box when it’s necessary. Still has a lot of areas he needs to improve upon, but with continued hard work, Bonneau will improve his chances of moving to the next level in the next few years.

Danny Stewart- LW/C. Stewart is often overlooked in Rimouski with all the attention Sydney Crosby gets, but he is having a solid season, and is currently third on the team in scoring, as he has set career highs in his offensive production, and improving his defensive play.

OHL

Corey Locke- C. Locke continues to dominate the OHL, as he just recently hit the century mark for the second season in a row. Over the last two seasons, Locke has piled up over 250 points is just 121 games which shows why he was chosen the CHL player of the year last season and could be named again if not for a young Crosby in the QMJHL. What’s impressive for Locke is that he is achieving all of his success this season while playing on a much younger team.

Andre Deveaux- C. Deveaux who is the second player that falls under the June 1st deadline for a player that must be signed or else reenter the draft this summer. He started out putting up some solid numbers, but his production and his defensive play have been recent areas of trouble for him, which does not help his chances of being signed this summer. There’s still time for him to show management that they should continue his development in this organization.

Mark Flood- D. Flood is having a career year, as he has been given the role of leading the defense especially on the power play, where he has been effective all season long. While he has been able to produce on offense, his defensive game has taken a considerable hit lately, as he continues to improve his all round game.

NCAA

Ryan O’Byrne- D. O’Byrne is still held pointless, but he has been able to play in every game with the exception of being suspended for one game for fighting which is not allowed in the NCAA. While he hasn’t been able to produce any points, he does lead his team in penalty minutes as he continues to play an aggressive physical game. Cornell’s season is coming to an end, but O’Byrne should get valuable experience in the playoffs which get under way in a few weeks.

Ryan Glenn- D. Glenn has really stepped it up lately, as he has shown a big improvement in his offensive production, as he has recently recorded more assists this season, then in his entire NCAA career of 105 games. He’s also improved his defensive play, as he is third on the team in +/- while playing on the top defensive pairing. One thing he seems to have worked on was shooting the puck more, as he is getting close to three and a half shots a game, which shows he has more confidence his in shot, hence the career high in goals scored. As a senior, Glenn is making a case for management to consider signing him once his NCAA career is over, which is only a few weeks away.

Scott Selig- RW. As a senior heading into his final season, this is not the way Selig could have wanted things to go. Seeing only limited ice time, Selig has not been able to produce any offense, while having trouble in his own end as well.

Sweden

Johan Eneqvist- C/LW. Eneqvist has had a solid season in the tier-2 league, as he was one of the top scorers on the team all season long, and has been productive in the playoffs as well as his team sits near the top of the league.

Christopher Heino-Lindberg- G. Lindberg is going to need some time off after facing so much rubber this season in Sweden’s tier-2 league. He played for the worst team in the league, as they gave up a ton of shots against, and couldn’t buy a win. This could end up being a good experience for Lindberg, and with a strong off season, he could find himself getting a chance to play for Team Sweden’s U-20 team next year.

Russia

Andrei Kastsitsyn- C/LW. Since the World Juniors, Kastsitsyn has been playing for CSKA-2 of the junior league, and he has been on a hot scoring pace lately, as he is close to scoring a goal a game. He recently took part in the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge where he play in 3 games and was able to record six points with two goals and four assists. From the sound of the positive reports from Habs management, there will be a major emphasis on signing the tenth overall pick at some point this summer if possible, which would be great for fans to get to see him in action in North America.

Konstantin Korneev- D. Playing on the fourth pairing, ice time has been hard to come by, as Korneev continues to play for AK Bars. With the limited ice time, his production has really dropped, and lately he hasn’t been able to find his way onto the score sheet.

Alex Buturlin- RW. Points have been tough to come by lately, as Buturlin has seen his offensive numbers stall, but he continues to play on the top lines for Lada of the Russian Super League.

Finland

Oskari Korpikari- D. Hasn’t been able to produce much of anything offensively, as he plays on the third pairing in the sm-liiga the top mens league in Finland. He also has missed much time with a shoulder injury he got playing for Team Finland in the U-20 tournament where his team won the Bronze.

Joni Puurula- G. With the injury to starter Rob Tallas, Puurula has taken back the starting role, and has continued to put up impressive numbers for HPK in the sm-liiga. After being named the starter last season, Puurula has had some problems with consistency, but he works with the goalie coach of the Finnish National Team to help him iron out his all round game.

Czech Republic

Tomas Linhart – D. Linhart has been the traveling man, as he has played in three different leagues, and played for the U-20 Czech National team. After spending one season in North America last year, Linhart has returned home to the Czech league, where he has seen time with Pardubice in the highest junior league. He has also spent time in the mens league with HC VCE Hradec, the second highest level of hockey in the Czech Republic. And he has also spent time playing for HC Moeller, which is the highest level of hockey, but Linhart hasn’t seen much time in that league so far. Hopefully he is picking up things from each level of play, as he is still very young, having turned 20 years old this month.

Slovakia

Jaroslav Halak- G. Halak much like Linhart has spent time playing in several different leagues this season. He started out playing in the junior league, where he has put up some very impressive numbers. An injury got him a call up to the mens league, where he spent time in the top two levels, and put up solid numbers in each league. Halak was also named to be the starting goalie for Team Slovakia’s U-20, after being the starter for last year’s U-18 team. Halak did well in the recent World Junior tournament, as he faced more shots then any other goalie with only one goalie even close to him. All this has to be a great learning experience for him, as the final pick of the Habs 2003 draft, Halak is showing an impressive ability of stopping pucks.
