Strengths

Size and lots of it. Has decent hands and is good on face-offs. Can be a
force in and around the net. If he learns to use his size and shows up to play
every night, he could a player to look out for. Will play physical at times, and
can drop the gloves.

 

Weaknesses

Needs to improve his skating, and consistency the most. Work ethic is
questionable, along with his defensive zone coverage. Has shown improvement
since being traded to Owen Sound.

March 2004 – Playoffs Report – Owen Sound– Andre Deveaux had
started off the season strong, but tailed off towards the end. This is not a
good way to get management to offer him a contract, as he will need a strong
playoff run to show that he should be signed before June 1^st, instead
of letting him reenter the draft. Owen Sound will face the Guelph Storm tonight
in the first game, as they face an uphill battle against one of the better teams
in the OHL.

February 2004 – Deveaux who is the second player that falls
under the June 1^st deadline for a player that must be signed or else
reenter the draft this summer. He started out putting up some solid numbers, but
his production and his defensive play have been recent areas of trouble for him,
which does not help his chances of being signed this summer. There’s still time
for him to show management that they should continue his development in this
organization.

January 2004 – Deveaux has had some real trouble scoring
goals lately, as he hasn’t hit the back of the net in the last 12 games, so his
point production has taken a big hit, while also hurting his +/- numbers which
took a hit as well. Part of the problem could be his increased time spent in the
box, as he has picked up 42 pims over the last 10 games. Even with the recent
lack of production, Deveaux is near career highs in all areas of offense, and he
continues to play a major role in his teams success especially in the face-off
circle.

December 2003 – Deveaux is 3^rd on his team in
scoring and leads the team in +/- while being used to win important face-offs.
Has also had a tough time scoring points lately, but has picked up the physical
side of the game, and has dropped the gloves several times as well.

November 2003 – Being traded last year looks like it’s
paying off big rewards to the big center, as he has an increased role on the
team taking the late important face-offs. What’s most impressive is his
improvement in his own end, where he was a -21 last season, he’s a team leading
+11, while he’s also shown improvement on the score sheet and in taking less
penalties.

October 2003 – Deveaux who is also playing for a contract,
or he will reenter the draft. This may be a factor as to his recent success, but
so far Deveaux is tied for 2^nd in team scoring. Where he really
needed to show improvement was in his defensive zone play, and he’s done a
complete turnaround so far. After being a team low -22 last year (mostly while
playing on Belleville), he has shown a better effort on the ice, and is a team
high +11.

September 2003 – The big man stand at around 6’5 220, was
traded last season to Owen Sound where he seems to have found a new home. After
have a tough year in his own end, Deveaux improved in play in both ends of the
rink. So far in five games, he’s picked up three goals, one assist, 10 penalty
minutes, while being an impressive +3. 5-3-1-4 10 +3. Deveaux needs to improve
his play in his own end, while learning to use his size to his advantage and
bringing it every night. After being a horrid -22 last year, he’s off to a good
start, but he will need to work hard every night if he hopes to attract
attention from the Habs management, as he is in need of a contract by June
1^st. Owen Sound seems to have improved a great deal recently, and
this should help Deveaux play an important role in all situations, as he is one
of the top face-off men on the team, and has already won some very important
late game face-off.
